About the Poet :-
Walt Whitman was born in Newyork (America) in 1819. He was very poor and he began working as a carpenter before he was twelve years old. Later , he worked as a printer, teacher and editor. He also served in an Army hospital during the civil war . He was an Individualistic and literary figure of America. He began to write well. His important works are Leaves of Grass (1855) and Drum Taps (1866). He became very popular in Europe and he was remembered with praise in America after his death. He died in 1982.
Summary:-
'Song of Myself' is a very beautiful poem. It has been composed by Walt Whitman. In this poem, the poet sings and says aboutlife.According to the poet, all are same and all have similarity. He thinks that there is no difference between him and the other person. He says that every person has the same feeling. Every person has the same atom of blood. The poet wanders and thinks why persons quarrel with one-another. He is sad to see all quarrelling due to narrow thinking, religious feeling etc. So he is worried. He observes the spear of grass in summer. He supposes that there are two sides of life - joy and sorrow. He says that his body, tongue and every atom of blood have been formed from soil and air. He says that he came after his parents as all came. He is 37 years old now and he is healthy . So he wants to work continuously, He is religious minded and he has no consideration of creeds and schools (systems of thought). He believes in goodness and badness but he wants tospeak about every hazard. He says that nature should not be checked otherwise it will be dangerous (Full of hazards). He wishes that there should be communal harmony in society, So we can say that the poet says that life is a beautiful thing. So everybody should be happy and try to make others happy,
